The properties are two lots of .42 and .49 acres. They have five residential neighbors to the north and west, and one commercial neighbor to the south.
Until late August when the owner and developer bulldozed them, on the properties stood single family residences which the Franklin County Auditor had valued at $175,000 and $193,000 respectively. Owner claimed that demolition was necessary because it was “not economically feasible to maintain the properties as rentals.” (Arlington property cleared, Cols. Dispatch, 08/29/08) What owner purposefully fails to mention is that in March of this year, the neighbors offer to purchase the homes but was rejected because owner had numerous offers already. We were told that to sell to us who be unfair to all the others had been asking to buy them for some time. If owner no longer wanted to be a landlord, or found the houses "not economically feasible", they could have easily sold the houses rather than take a bulldozer to them.
